Kastelorizo is the smallest and most eastern of the Dodecanese islands and close to the Turkish mainland. The harbour front of the main town is very attractive, lined by elegant mansions and surrounded by imposing hills which are floodlit at night. The island is devoid of beaches but the main harbour is unpolluted so visitors may easily dip into the sea. Snorkelers will enjoy plenty of marine life. Another attraction is the ancient Paleokastro and the peaceful monasteries.
You may travel between Rhodes and Kastelorizo by either plane, which takes 40 minutes or by ferry boat, a trip of about 2 hours and 20 minutes. From Athens by plane it takes 3 hours and the ferry boat from Athens Piraeus port takes almost 20 hours.
