Mani

The unique, charming Mani landscape gives the visitor a feeling of going back through time; A dry, wild land filled with towers, ancient cities, imposing caverns, Byzantine churches, and unique beaches.

Mani is built in a way that can be found nowhere else. The houses were small “forts” that protected their residents both from harsh weather, and invaders. An autonomous, independent people, the people of Mani always protected their land with courage and valor.

This unique place has a somewhat reclusive quality that makes it very captivating.

The recent years have seen growth and demand from Greek and foreign visitors, many of whom have made the area their permanent residence. The unique architectural style has been largely preserved, featuring stone houses and small, castle-like windows.

From Mani, one can enjoy many excursion locations in close proximity, like the old Vatheia settlement, exploring Byzantine churches and sites, ancient caverns, the old pirate lair of Porto Kagio, and many more.
