Halandri is the area between Mesogheion and Kifissia with a number of 75,000 inhabitants. It is distinguished by its outstanding urban design, extensive pedestrian walks and bicycle paths and the long tradition of commerce by its inhabitants. It has easy access and, therefore, has become heavily populated over the past years. The area’s name is of Turkish origin and probably refers to the ravine village since Halandri is, in fact, its ravine.
It is one of the most beautiful places as far as natural beauty in the capital city complex is concerned. These are the remains of a stream that embraced the Vrilissia River, a torrent that starts from Nea Penteli and ends somewhere in the area of Tourkovounia.
It consists of many neoclassical mansions that may have been cottages and weekend residencies some fifty years ago, typical Athenian suburban apartments with their open ground floor parking spaces and fireplaces. Halandri is a large, new area with a turbulent center and quiet neighborhoods. It has multiple business features, as well as residential ones, and offers a wide selection of shopping opportunities. The further by area of Polidroso is considered to be more far off.
Particularity: There is nothing Halandri cannot offer his residents! It is perfectly self-sufficient.
Districts: Aghia Varvara to the west, Polidroso to the north, close to the borders of Maroussi, Ano Halandri in the northeast (neighborhoods of Τοufas, Fragokklisias and Metamorfosi), the east section of the area goes beyond Anapafseos Avenue and approaches Penteli and Halandri in the south, where New Halandri has developed, close to the National Mint Building. In addition, there is a small residential area on Mikras Asias Road for war refugees, while at the triangle of Aghia Varvara Church, visitors encounter Sidera, one of the oldest residential areas in the Municipality of Halandri, where small historic homes are preserved and remain unchanged.
Nature: Ravines of Penteli and Halandri
Transportation: The Municipality of Halandri is located in a quite nodal point of Attica and is served by several Metro stations, such as Halandri, Doukissis Plakentias, some areas of Aghia Paraskevi and the National Mint Building area, as well as by the suburban train stations of Penteli and Doukissis Plakentias. Finally, the Municipality is served by a number of bus lines and trolley buses.
Market: Offers many shopping opportunities and basically you will find everything you need.
Culture/Entertainment: This very lively area with its shopping centers, variety of shops and pedestrian walks offers many choices for night life and entertainment with quality restaurants, bars and cafes, casual or fancy, galleries, movie theaters, even escape rooms, to say the least.
