Ikaria has a pure beauty, definitely not to be missed, and is famous for the hospitality of the local inhabitants and its traditional cuisine. The island is located west of Samos and offers relaxing holidays. Since ancient times it was considered a health resort due to its thermal springs.
A majority of the Ikarian people have moved their villages high up on the rocky slopes of the island, however, this isolation has led them to enjoy life in a rather unique way. Without any outside interference, the islanders developed their own easy going mentality and approach to life, which can be seen all over the island and its beautiful villages.
This island offers its visitors a wide choice of activities, such as visiting the villages, long walks in nature, mountains, rivers, many beautiful beaches with clean waters, thermal waters and many sightseeing opportunities, such as castles, museums, monasteries, temples and caves.
Ikaria can be easily reached by plane directly from Athens or by ship. Nearby islands include Mykonos, Patmos, Samos and Chios. National ferry boat lines regularly connect Ikaria with Athens Pireaus Port and various islands.
