Milos is one of the most beautiful islands of Greece and has the finest and most spectacular beaches in the Aegean, over 70 in number. In addition, it is of a very unique nature consisting of impressive landscapes, the main town Plaka, lovely villages, volcanic features, ancient mines, caves, thermal springs and an underwater paradise for divers.
Quite particular, only here and on the nearby island of Kimolos, you will find small colorful houses situated right by the sea, which were used by fishermen to shelter their boats during the winter time. Visitors also enjoy the excellent traditional and local cuisine and the island is famous for its fresh fish. There are a number of very good restaurants and tavernas that cater to Greek clientele instead of just tourists and they are well-visited by both.
Of archaeological interest are the catacombs, the Mining Museum, the Folk Art Museum and the Archaeological Museum with the duplication of the Aphrodite of Milos.
The island of Kimοlos, which can be reached by a small ferry from the fishing village Pollonia, is certainly worth a trip. There are excursions around that island to beaches and thermal springs, and staying overnight or even several days would be an experience only a few tourists have.
Ferries to Milos depart from Athens Piraeus Port daily in the summer period and the duration of the trip varies, depending on the vessel and the route. It may last from 4 to 8 hours but you can also travel by plane from Athens.
