Poros

The small island of Poros is the closest one to Athens, a very relaxing place for family holidays and a popular weekend destination for Athenians. Lately, Poros has become a very popular location for sailing in the Saronic Gulf.

Poros has a number of nice sandy beaches and secluded coves and the most scenic spot of the island is the Love Bay, which is surrounded by the characteristic pine forest of the area and the picturesque main town. A variety of good restaurants, traditional tavernas, cafes and bars located on the sea front of the main town will give you the opportunity to enjoy your evenings.

You may find a few fine and more upscale seaside hotels in Askeli but accommodation is mainly limited to conventional apartments, self-catering studios and rooms to rent.

The historical monastery of Zoodochos Pigi is worth a visit. There are daily departures of flying dolphins and flying cats from Athens Piraeus Port to Poros, the trip is about 1 hour and 20 minutes.  The ferryboat takes 2 hours and 30 minutes and driving by car to the port of Galata takes approximately 2 hours. The small ferries from Galata to Poros take about 20 minutes.
